Cardiff ballet dancer makes English Youth Ballet history

Olivia Trevelyan Richards makes English Youth Ballet (EYB) history as the company’s first young dancer to return to the company as a professional principal dancer. She will play the role of Cinderella in the English Youth Ballet’s upcoming production of Cinderella in Hollywood at the New Theater Cardiff.

Olivia (22) grew up in Cyn Coed Cardiff, and at the age of 13 danced with EYB in Cardiff in a production of Giselle. At that time, she was training at the Mandy & Shirley Morris School of Dance. She graduated from the Central School of Ballet and was offered a professional senior contract with EYB in 2021.

Please find attached an interview with Olivia, some photos, a production press release and some quotes from Gwennan Staziker. Gwennan (17) – from St Nicholas in Cardiff – is a talented young actress currently training at the Mandy & Shirley Morris School of Dance. Gwennan is thrilled to dance with Olivia (who has been an inspiration to her).

Cinderella in Hollywood – New Theater Cardiff

(Fri 19 – Sat 20 August)

There will be 3 performances of EYB’s newest ballet – Cinderella in Hollywood. The lavish production will feature 6 international principal dancers and showcase the talents of 70 young dancers from the region. Set in the glamorous era of 1950s Hollywood movies, this lavish production is inspired by movie star Grace Kelly who met Prince Rainier of Monaco at a press party and later married him.

Cinderella is a seamstress on a film set and the Fairy Godmother is her late mother – a former movie star from the 1930s. Her mean sisters are Hollywood starlets vying for leading movie roles. The prince meets Cinderella at the press party but at midnight she flees the stage leaving a shimmering silver spike as the only clue to her identity.
