Huntington Ballet Academy Adds Beginner Classes and Modern Teen Ballet Classes

The Huntington Ballet Academy now offers more classes for teens and beginners through 10-week sessions.

The Huntington Ballet Academy in Suffolk County is adding ballet lessons for teenagers and modern, as well as open ballet lessons for beginners aged 7 and over, which will run in 10-week sessions from October.

“We want ballet to be accessible to everyone. That’s why we offer open auditions to students outside our academy,” says Joan Albright, owner of the Huntington Ballet Academy. “We focus on narrative ballet, using music from classic films and jazz.”

The faculty at Huntington Ballet Academy is made up of professional teachers, many of whom have their master’s degrees from New York University and the American Ballet Theater program. All teachers at Huntington Ballet Academy are American Ballet Theater®– certified and/or have their master’s degree in ballet pedagogy from NYU. ABT’s National Training Curriculum incorporates sound ballet principles and elements from the French, Italian and Russian training schools. The ABT and NYU graduate curriculum includes examining ballet techniques and preparing teachers to work in different environments, focusing on teaching dance with a focus on ballet pedagogy.

“We could describe our mission as helping ordinary kids do extraordinary things,” says Albright.

The Huntington Ballet Academy is part of the Long Island Ballet Theatre; students participate in its classic productions such as Sleeping Beauty and Wizard of Oz.

“A former student of the Long Island Ballet Theater will direct Nutcracker production this year after enjoying a successful career as a professional dancer and being its assistant director last year,” said Albright.
